News & Media
Below are stories and news items about Providence Day School and/or the PDS community that originated from the school or have appeared in various media outlets.
Two Providence Day seniors, David Li and Victor Chu, have been selected to represent North Carolina in the 2018 All-National Honor Ensembles. Both students qualified for the highest levels of state-level honor ensemble achievement and competed against top students nationally for a spot in these national honor ensembles.
Through an audition process against students from all over the country, Victor Chu (Violin) was selected for the Symphony Orchestra and David Li (Clarinet) was selected for the Concert Band. PD Director of Bands, Dr. Michael Hough, says that this opportunity is, "so much more than a musical ensemble; it is a comprehensive musical and educational experience."
As part of the National Association for Music Education's All-National Honor Ensembles, Li and Chu will join over 50 students from 49 states to showcase their outstanding musical achievement in this national and prestigious event. The performance will take place at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL on Nov. 25-28, 2018.
The All-National Honor Ensembles performers represent collaboration and creativity in its highest musical form. Selected students will be rehearsing a challenging repertoire in preparation for performing under the baton of five of the most prominent conductors in the United States, all of whom have received top honors in their fields. The Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Jean Montes and the Concert Band will be conducted by Dennis Glocke.
