DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke cornerback Bryon Fields Jr. has agreed to terms with the New York Giants to join the NFL organization as an undrafted free agent.

A three-year starter, Fields Jr. played in 52 career games with 39 starts and posted 181 tackles, 5.0 tackles for lost yardage, 1.0 quarterback sack, six interceptions, 21 pass breakups, two caused fumbles and one fumble recovery. The Charlotte, N.C., product was a four-time Academic All-ACC selection, becoming the 11th Blue Devil to earn four career accolades.

Fields Jr. holds the Duke career record with four interception returns for touchdowns. Also in program history, he ranks 11th in interception return yardage (139) and 13th in pass breakups. His two returns for scores in 2017 are tied for the most in a year at Duke.

As a redshirt senior in 2017, Fields Jr. was the recipient of the program’s Frances Cutcliffe Spirit of Perseverance Award, which is presented annually to the player who best displays the toughness and perseverance to overcome challenges and continue to strive for victory. He was one of four team-elected captains for the campaign and started all 13 games. Fields Jr. helped the Blue Devils secure bowl eligibility with a season-high seven tackles and his year’s only tackle for lost yardage at Wake Forest and added two pass breakups as Duke won 31-23.

Fields Jr. was also responsible for one of Duke’s most memorable plays of the season, setting the program career record for interceptions returned for touchdowns at North Carolina to seal the Blue Devils’ victory with a 61-yard return for a score with 4:01 to play in the contest. The return increased Duke’s lead from 20-17 to 27-17. He was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week following the performance against the Tar Heels. Fields Jr. set the tone for his senior year on just the second offensive play of the season, intercepting an N.C. Central pass in the season opener and returning it 28 yards for a touchdown.

His leadership and performance on the defense helped the Blue Devils finish within the top 25 in multiple defensive categories in 2017 including opponent fourth down conversions (22.2/2nd), passing defense (179.4/16th), opponent third down conversions (32.0/16th), scoring defense (20.2/21st), total defense (332.6/21st) and pass efficiency defense (116.88/25th).

As a true freshman in 2014, Fields Jr. played in all 14 games and booked his first collegiate sack for nine-yard loss of eventual Heisman Trophy recipient Jameis Winston of Florida State in the Dr Pepper ACC Championship game. Fields Jr. posted season-high three pass breakups to match the second-highest single-game total by a Duke freshman in the 13-10 win over No. 16 Virginia Tech as the Blue Devils defeated a nationally-ranked opponent on the road for the first time since 1971.
