Providence Day to Host Joined in Education Event on Parenting
Posted 10/31/2018 04:31PM

Providence Day is pleased to partner with Joined in Education (JIE) again this year and is hosting keynote speaker Dr. Wendy Mogel as part of the “Cutting Through the Noise” two-day program.  Dr. Mogel, renowned international parenting expert, frequent guest speaker on national media, and The New York Times bestselling author, will give her talk in the McMahon Fine Arts Center theater on Providence Day’s campus Wednesday, January 30 at 7:30 pm.

At the JIE event, she will be discussing her new book, “Voice Lessons for Parents: What to Say, How to Say It, When to Listen,” which is described as “an essential guide to the new art of talking to children, showing how a change in tone and demeanor can transform the relationship between parents and children across the expanse of childhood and adolescence.”

Dr. Mogel is a practicing clinical psychologist and serves on the scientific advisory board of Parents magazine. Through her clinical practice, she developed a remarkably effective series of “voice lessons,” which she shared with parents who were struggling with their kids. The results were immediate: a shift in vocal style led to children who were calmer, listened more attentively, and communicated with more warmth, respect, and sincerity. The book also explains the most effective ways to talk about your children to teachers, coaches, nannies, caretakers, grandparents and partners. Dr. Mogel has also authored perennial bestseller “The Blessing of a Skinned Knee,” and the critically-praised “The Blessing of a B Minus.”

Joined in Education brings top-tier educators to Charlotte to engage the community in dialogue and action that improves outcomes for children in the classroom and at home. Day two of the “Cutting Through the Noise” program will feature National Public Radio’s Anya Kamenetz discussing her book, “The Art of Screen Time” followed by parent and educator workshops at Shalom Park on January 31. Several Providence Day faculty members will participate in the educator workshops.

Tickets to all events are required and can be purchased at joinedineducation.org/tickets.
