Garrett Ellison

Garrett Ellison has been drawn to the theatre for years, although he never would have predicted that’s where his professional life would take him. “This isn’t even remotely what I thought I would be doing,” explains Garrett. While at Providence Day he served as student body president and played football. “I thought I would probably be an engineer,” he says about his teenage-view of his future self.

But in seventh grade, Garrett tried out for the school play – and didn’t get a part. “But they told me I could work on the tech crew,” he explains. “We designed and built the sets, and it was just me and a couple of other kids.” Garrett loved it, and stayed with technical theater throughout his years at PDS, eventually attending the New York University Tisch School of Arts.

Now a freelance stage manager, Garrett lives and works in New York City. He has worked in a variety of roles in theatre, film/TV and live events. His past projects have included the “State of Affairs” pilot, “Blue Bloods: Season 4,” the Super Bowl XVIII Game Day Plaza event and the Ellis Island Medals of Honor Ceremony. He is currently Art Department Assistant on the new show, Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil.

Garrett has returned to the Providence Day campus several times to speak to students about pursuing arts-based careers. It’s clear he’s found what he loves to do. “I love being someone who comes in to a project, hears what they are envisioning, and then helps make that happen.”
