Battle of the Books
This club encourages students to read quality young adult literature from a variety of genres. Competitions between schools are held each year as an incentive to maintain student interest in reading.
Mathematical Olympiad for Elementary Schools is a nonprofit public foundation that provides opportunities for children to engage in problem solving activities which develop a child’s ability to reason, to be logical, and to be resourceful. Providence Day School has two Math Olympiad teams for 4th- and 5th-graders. The two teams, consisting of 35 students each, are chosen according to their strengths in understanding mathematical concepts and applying these concepts in a problem solving situation.
Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing male, female, and minority interest in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers. These goals are achieved by participating in Science Olympiad tournaments and non-competitive events. Providence Day School has one team which is open to 4th and 5th graders and is led by the two Lower School Science teachers.
The Safety Patrol is a service club and is open to all 5th-grade students. Duties are assigned in the hallways and sidewalk areas of the Lower School before and after school.
