Arts in Lower School
Introducing the Arts Early
Click on any photo below to learn more about our array of arts opportunities for Lower School students.
The TK through fourth-grade music program at Providence Day School is designed to teach children to be active and critical listeners and thinkers. Classes incorporate singing, moving, and playing instruments, and students interact with classical, popular, and global music.
Music classes are grounded in a sequential curriculum that helps students gain music reading and performing skills. Students are encouraged to experiment with percussion instruments both collectively and individually while applying fundamental note-reading skills. Students in fourth grade also learn the recorder, further developing their note-reading skills.
Lower School grades take part in arts-related field trips on a rotating basis. These trips include experiences such as attending a musical, a symphony concert, or a ballet performance.
For more information on our performing and visual arts departments, please contact Michael Hough, Performing Arts Department Chair and Band Director, or Lindsay Woog, Visual Arts Department Chair and Middle School Art Teacher.
