Testing Requirements

Providence Day School has carefully selected specific screening instruments to help determine the match between prospective students and students currently enrolled at PDS. Depending on the grade level, a student's cognitive ability, readiness level, and academic achievement skills also are measured.

Grades 5-12

For all students applying to multiple schools for 5th-12th grade, the Consortium of Charlotte Area Independent Schools has contracted with the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) to conduct the Independent Schools Entrance Exam (ISEE).

The ISEE consists of verbal and quantitative ability tests, mathematics, and reading comprehension achievement tests, and a written essay. The ability tests measure a student's ability to learn; the achievement tests, including the essay, show how well the student understands the concepts already studied.
