Happy New Year, Alumni Parents! We hope 2021 is filled with health, happiness and peace for you and your family.
50th Anniversary Celebration: 50th Anniversary Original Cafeteria Menu Week: During the week of January 25, we will be paying homage to our school's original cafeteria menu and recognizing the many parents who volunteered in the cafeteria in the 1970s and 1980s cooking and serving meals to our students. Each day throughout the week the Dining Hall will feature a different throwback lunch item from the 1988-89 menu for our Middle and Upper School students. We remain grateful for the many volunteer hours our alumni parents contributed to provide meals to our students each and every day! If you have pictures or a memory of your time working in the lunchroom, please email lynette.allison@providenceday.org.

Alumni Updates: PD NetWORK: PD NetWORK engages various constituencies of the Providence Day community to provide internship and mentorship opportunities for our young alumni. If you are interested in posting an internship with your company for our alumni, contact Rachel Ellis at rachel.ellis@providenceday.org. Alumni/Faculty Art Show: As the Art Department plans for a safe Alumni/Faculty Art Show this year, they are looking for alumni feedback. If your alumni children are interested in participating in this year's art show, please have them take a short survey here to help with their planning. This year's show will be a special edition in honor of our 50th Anniversary and will include self-portraits from Golden Chargers (retired faculty and staff). Look out for a slideshow of works in the coming months! Providence Day welcomed four young alumni last Thursday for the Young Alumni College Forum. Held virtually for the first time, this was the annual event's 25th year.
Alumni Grant Buchmiller '17, Lauryn Harper '17, Danielle Kapustin '17, and Ingrid Koback '19 spoke to junior and senior parents about how Providence Day prepared them for college.
The four alumni then spoke to the junior class and gave our students valuable college advice. Members of the Class of 2020 Senior Gift Committee stopped by campus to see the installation of their class gift to the school. The new College Directional Sign is located in the courtyard by the DeMayo Gateway Center and the Academic Center. Bricks from the original school house were used to create the base and represent a piece of PD history.
Campus News: Providence Day bids a fond farewell to Kenna Powell: After nearly 30 years at PD, Kenna left her role as Director of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management to become Association Executive Director of Risk for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. Kenna's influence has been felt in nearly every aspect of the school. She touched the lives of our youngest students as she led our Extended Day and Clubhouse programs from the early 1990s to 2015, and then broadened her reach to every corner of campus overseeing Providence Day's teams focused on health, traffic management, and campus security. Providence Day leading for the Wells Fargo Cup: The Wells Fargo Cup, presented annually and sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., recognizes overall excellence in high school athletics among North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) member institutions. Providence Day, which has won the Cup seven of the past nine years, is in the lead after the fall season. Click here to see standings and read more. Drive for Drives: The Providence Day School Parents' Association (PA) in partnership with Hendrick Luxury Group and E2D, a non-profit with a mission of ensuring that all students have affordable access to essential at-home technology, hosted "Drive for Drives" to help end the digital divide for low-income students throughout Charlotte. As a result of this campaign and the generosity of individuals and corporations, 492 laptops and iPads were wiped clean, refurbished, and given to some of the 60,000 students in Charlotte who live at or below the federal poverty line and do not have a home computer. Thanks to all those who donated! Read more here.
