Dear Providence Day families:
I hope this Spring Break is finding you all safe with your families. At this unprecedented time in global history, our fortitude and resilience are being tested. I believe our community is up to this challenge. As our human contact is being reduced by social distancing and quarantines, it gives us pause to appreciate how incredibly important and vital this human contact really is. While we are saddened to know it will be a while longer before we hear the voices of our children filling our campus again, we do know that this extraordinary situation is temporary, and we need only to find a way to ensure it brings out the best in us all.
As you know, we will be sending you further communications about our remote learning which is scheduled to begin next Wednesday, March 25th. Look for this information early next week. In order to observe the 15-day guidance for avoiding gatherings of 10 or more, we will keep our campus closed to all non-essential functions next week and conduct our communications with our faculty and staff and with our families remotely. We will of course continue to send you updates as the days progress. We will continue to post every communication at www.providenceday.org/coronavirusinfo, so please bookmark that page if you haven't already.
We have an opportunity to help our students understand they are part of history, and to understand that they have a critically important role to play in the health of their families, their community, and their nation. As parents and teachers, we can model social responsibility by working to "flatten the curve" ourselves, by following all the CDC guidelines, and perhaps most importantly, treating others with grace, kindness, and compassion during these unprecedented and daunting times. We have also seen how our community is coming together to help others, through food drives and other offers of assistance to those most vulnerable. Our students are watching and living social responsibility in action. I remain in awe of your ability to look after one another and care for one another.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if we here at Providence Day can help in any way. We will soon be sending out similar messages to our network of alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, and Golden Chargers. All this will pass, not quickly perhaps, but it will. Let's plan on re-emerging with gratitude, humility, and love for humanity. We will get through this together. PD is family.
Cheers,
Dr. Glyn Cowlishaw
