Dear Providence Day Families:
The health, safety and well-being of the Providence Day community remains our top priority. With spring break upon us, we ask that you consider both your health and well-being, as well as the health and well-being of our entire community, as you finalize travel plans.
Due to public health concerns related to COVID-19, we are taking steps to limit the potential for exposure within our community. The school strongly urges our families not to travel internationally to any location with a CDC travel warning of Level 2 or higher, or to any destination with the potential to reach that level during your travel. Additionally, we strongly urge you to follow the CDC's guidance on deferring cruise ship travel. And finally, we are asking you to review any domestic U.S. travel plans to areas with potential for widespread or sustained transmission of COVID-19. Current domestic destinations to avoid include King County, Washington or New Rochelle, New York, but be advised that the list of domestic destinations is fluid and likely to change in the coming days.
All disclosures should be made to me, Dr. Glyn Cowlishaw, at (704) 887-6022.
In addition, as with any sickness - such as the common cold, flu or stomach bug - we ask everyone to stay home if they experience coughing, sore throat, fever, vomiting and/or diarrhea, etc. You should be free of these symptoms for at least 48 hours before you come back to campus.
To ensure your student(s) can recover with peace of mind, should your student(s) fall ill and/or need to be out of school for an extended period of time, the School will work with you and your student(s) on any necessary academic plan. Please contact Michael Magno, Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs, if such a plan is needed (michael.magno@providenceday.org 704-887-6010).
And finally, because the situation can change so rapidly during the coming week, we have determined that Monday, March 23 will be designated as a faculty/staff workday. This time will be used to assess the situation within our school and the larger Charlotte community; to review training and procedures for distance learning; and to determine any further next steps for ensuring the safety and health of all within our community. After-school athletic practice and extracurriculars can continue as scheduled; Extended Day will remain open only to children of employees.
We will continue to track updates from local, state, and federal organizations and keep you informed of school decisions. The health and safety of our community remains our highest priority, and we will continue to communicate with you as needed.
We wish you all a safe, happy, and healthy spring break.
Sincerely, Dr. Glyn Cowlishaw
