Next week girls basketball kicksoff their annual "Play4Kay" night. On Tuesday, Jan 26, JV Girls take on Charlotte Christian at Home at 4:30 and on Thursday, January 28, Varsity Girls face the Cougars of Cannon School at 5:00 PM. Help suport the fight vs breast cancer.

January 20, 2021 - FieldTurf Installation Update: Eleven days ago construction crews began the process of ripping up the turf on Mosack Field and preparing the surface for installation of a new and improved artificial turf. Installing the new FieldTurf started yesterday and the team is making great progress in only two days. Completion will be ready in time for the beginning of Spring sports.

The NCISAA recently released the Fall standings for the 2020-2021 Wells Fargo Cup. The Wells Fargo Cup, presented and sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., recognizes overall excellence in high school athletics among NCISAA member institutions. Defending Cup champion Providence Day has won the Cup seven of the past nine years and the Chargers are looking strong leading into this year.
PD's Director of Athletics Nancy Beatty recently announced the hiring of Nicole Stiles Donoghue as the Chargers new head coach for the varsity girls’ lacrosse team. Donoghue graduated from Lake Norman HS in 2009 and played collegiately at James Madison University graduating in 2013 with a BS in Justice Studies. Since graduating from JMU, she has held a number of coaching positions including assistant coach at Lake Norman HS where she helped lead the team to the 2015 state championship. Read more...
The NCISAA recently announced their selections for the 2020 All-State team. The Chargers had five first team, five second team, and three Honoral Mention selections. RBC Wealth Mangement's Private School "Player of the Week" is Providence Day senior Thomas Flynn. Thomas had a strong game this past week catching 7 balls for 97 yards, including a 47 yard touchdown throw AND a pivotal 2 point conversion catch. The 6’ 4” senior was not only a highlight this past week, but a standout in all the Charger games this past year. Senior QB Jake Helfrich received honorable mention for his performance in the game. The idea for the Upper School club known as the Providence Day Sports Network (PDSN) started in 2012 and became a reality in the fall of 2014. It started out just streaming varsity basketball and football games, but thanks to a talented group of students over the years and fan restrictions due to Covid, has evolved into an impressive streaming operation that now live streams most middle school, JV, and varsity athletic events.
The NCISAA recently announced their selections for the 2020 Fall season All-State recipients. The Chargers had an impressive showing with fourteen student-athletes named across five different sports. Football selections will be named after their season concludes.

This past Saturday, the Varsity Boys Cross Country team, led by Christian Landis, Colter Nichols and John Smith, won their fourth consecutive 4A NCISAA Cross Country State Championship by an impressive margin over second place finisher Cary Academy. Four other runners were also instrumental in bringing home the trophy.
This past week saw many of the Providence Day teams compete in the CISAA conference tournament or the NCISAA state tournament. During those contests, many of the Charger student-athletes had outstanding performances making it extremely difficult to choose just two "Chargers of the Week." Here are this week's selections. With early goals by Emily Ritchie and Grace Stokes, along with a super defensive effort, the Chargers defeated Country Day 2-0 to earn the 2020 NCISAA State Championship. This is the first for the Chargers since the program was introduced. Congratulations to Head Coach Miki Osherow, Associate Head Coach Michelle Garrity, Assistant Coaches Sarah Kocmond and Sajjad Rashid.
It wasn’t that long ago the Providence Day Girls’ Tennis team had the makings of a dynasty. They won the NCISAA Girls Tennis State Championship in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 they were runner-up.They took the championship trophy back in 2009, again in 2010, 2011, and 2012. In 2013 the Chargers once again made it to the finals but returned with the runner-up trophy. That was the last year they were in the finals...until this year! On Saturday they travel to Carlotte Latin to battle the Hawks for this year's championship.
Providence Day won the Big South 4A conference championship Friday night by defeating Country Day 35-30. Senior running back Nickel Fields helped lead the way with 17 carries for 241 yards and three touchdowns. Nickel had scoring runs of 77 and 67 yards.
Following in the footsteps of the Varsity Boys Cross Country team, the Middle School Boys won their final GCMSAA conference meet of the season. And like the varsity teams, both the Boys and the Girls had individual meet champions. Libby Barron (7th grade) and Ethan Tucker (8th grade) both were first to cross the finish line.
For the 21st consecutive year, the Varsity Boys Cross Country team won the 2020 CISAA conference championship. The Varsity Girls Cross Country team mirrored the effort by also winning the conference championship
The Charlotte Observer: Providence Day finally beat Charlotte Christian.
The Chargers went up 10 points, then went down by 11 before they rallied for a thrilling 32-28 win at Charlotte Christian. The game wasn’t decided until the final play — when the Knights threw an incomplete pass at the Providence Day 25.
