Providence Day gave coach Adam Hastings the only thing his résumé lacked: a state title

Five years ago, Providence Day hired Adam Hastings to make its football program a consistent winner. He replaced legendary coach Bruce Hardin and came in and did the same thing he did at Ardrey Kell,...attracted talent. After Friday’s 28-13 win over Metrolina Christian, Hastings has about the only thing his résumé had been lacking: a state championship.

Providence Day's Cross Country Head Coach Ben Hovis is selected the 2019 Boys 4A Coach of the Year

This year's selection by the Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (NCISAA-TFCCCA) for the 2019 4A Boys Coach of the Year was an easy and obvious choice: Providence Day's Ben Hovis. The team's impressive performance during the season and state championship race made the decision an easy one.

Providence Day sophomore Amaan Rashid selected to the U16 USA Field Hockey National Training Squad

Charger sophomore Amaan Rashid was recently named to the USA Field Hockey U16 National Training Squad. Amaan is one of only 25 athletes from across the US to be awarded this honor. The team has representatives from 12 different states and Amaan is the only one selected from North Carolina. Amaan is a member of the Charger JV Field Hockey team and splits his team responsibilities between playing goalie and managing the team.

Boys Cross Country win their third consecutive NCISAA State Championship; Girls place 5th

It was a great day to be a PDXC member. Both teams outperformed expectations on Friday at the NCISAA State Championships.The Girls placed 5th overall. Each girl placed higher than their ranking going into the meet. The Boys placed an amazing six runners in the top 11. That's six boys making the All-State team.The NCISAA State Championship was the 3rd in a row for the team and an amazing 11th in the last 15 years.

Providence Day’s JV Soccer team goes undefeated and wins the CISAA JV Conference Championship

The Boys JV Soccer team won back-to-back close games against Cannon School and Charlotte Latin in the CISAA JV Soccer tournament to finish the season undefeated, 14-0, and win the CISAA JV Soccer Conference Championship. The team only gave up four goals the entire season and registered ten shutouts.

Providence Day Boys Cross Country Wins Their 20th Consecutive CISAA Championship

On Tuesday, October 15, at McAlpine Park, the Providence Day Boys Cross Country team won their 20th consecutive CISAA Conference Championship in a dominating performance beating the second place finisher by 40 points. This incredible accomplishment started back in 2000 when Head Coach Ben Hovis was just starting out as an assistant before taking over the head coach spot in 2001.

On Tuesday, October 15, the Boys Cross Country team will try for their 20th consecutive CISAA Championship

For the Boys Cross Country team, the last 19 years have seen 7 different CISAA individual champions win 14 titles, 51 different athletes earn 100 All-Conference awards, and 67 different athletes either earning All-Conference or being part of the top seven. On Tuesday, October 15, they will try to win their 20th straight CISAA Conference Championship. Girls will start at 5:00; Boys will follow at 5:30. Read more for the entire list of past champions.

JV Field Hockey wins the CISAA Conference Championship

This was the third matchup of the season between Providence Day and Charlotte Latin. The Chargers won their first match against the Hawks 1-0 back in September. A week later, the Hawks traveled to PD and defeated the Chargers 0-1. At stake for their third meeting was the CISAA JV Field Hockey Championship...and the Chargers came through with a 2-1 hard fought victory.

Providence Day sixth grader Kirk Grace making his mark on the golf course

Kirk Grace is a 12-year-old sixth grader at Providence Day who loves playing golf. Not only does he love playing golf, but he is getting really good at it. The 4’10”, 85 lb. Charger has been hitting the links since age 7 and already has an 8 handicap. Kirk understands that “practice makes perfect” and that’s why he is on the Raintree Country Club golf course five times a week. Boys Cross Country wins the the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville, KY

On Thursday seven members of the Charger Cross Country team flew out to Louisville, Kentucky to compete at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational against some of the best programs from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and more. When it was all over, the Chargers flew home with the first place trophy, an incredible 41 point victory over a loaded Trinity/Valkyrie field. Charger QB Cody Cater named RBC Wealth Management "Player of the Week"

Congratulations to senior quarterback Cody Cater on being named RBC Wealth Management Player of the Week for Week # 4. Cater was an efficient 8 for 15 passing for 2 touchdowns in the Chargers 27- 6 victory over Timberland High School. Cody also demonstrated his scrambling skills a number of times during the game resulting in 26 yards rushing.

Charger Field Hockey wins the 22nd annual 2019 Gateway Classic Championship in St. Louis

The PD Varsity Field Hockey team traveled to St. Louis over the Labor Day weekend and returned to Charlotte with the Gateway Classic Field Hockey Championship trophy. The team went 4-0 and held their opponents to "0" goals scored. The 22nd Gateway Classic is currently the largest girls high school tournament in the country. Providence Day gets last-second goal to stop Gaston Day

On Tuesday, the Providence Day v Gaston Day boys’ soccer match went to the final second - make that the final 8/10 of a second - before being decided. The visiting Chargers completed a comeback with a goal in the final second of the first overtime period, giving them a 2-1 victory over Gaston Day. John Morris Byrne delivered a pass to Kade White, who was on the left side of the goal. Kade's shot went into the left side of the net for the winner!

PD's Ben Hovis and team win the 2019 USA Track and Field Masters 5K Championship

Providence Day's Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach Ben Hovis was part of the winning team in the 2019 USA Track and Field Masters 5K Championship recently run in Atlanta, Georgia. Coach Hovis and teammates Aaron Linz, Peter Brown, and Brad Balaban finished the race in first place with a time of 49:40 beating the Atlanta Track Club by 20 seconds. Read more...

Sophomore Cole Jessey and senior Nolan Fauchier named to the Charlotte Observer's "All-Observer" boys lacrosse team

Providence Day's sophomore attacker Cole Jessey and senior goalkeeper Nolan Fauchier were both named to the Charlotte Observer's "All-Observer" boys lacrosse team. Jessey, a first team selection, led the Chargers with 56 goals and 37 assists while Fauchier, a second team pick, was nearly impenetrable in front of the net.

Junior Jala Wright named to Charlotte Observer's "All-Observer" softball team

PD's Jala Wright was selected "All-Observer" first team as a Utility Player. She led the Chargers as their number 1 pitcher collecting an impressive 145 strikeouts for the season while batting an equally impressive .542 and stealing 39 bases. Earlier in the year, Jala was selected to the NCISAA All-State team and was also named the CISAA Conference "Player of the Year."

Providence Day's Grant Williams '16 taken in the first round of the NBA draft by the Boston Celtics

On Thursday, June 20, Providence Day alum Grant Williams ’16 was chosen by the Boston Celtics with their 22nd pick in the first round of the NBA draft. Williams will graduate from the University of Tennessee after his Junior year with a degree in Supply Chain Management and as a unanimous All-American with an incredible list of basketball accomplishments and honors.
