About PDS Athletics
Wells Fargo Cup recipient six of the previous nine years for our overall excellence in varsity athletics.
The Providence Day athletic program takes great pride in developing all of our student-athletes in grades 7-12. Participation in our athletic program provides our student-athletes with the opportunity to pursue excellence, build long-lasting relationships, and grow both physically and emotionally. We believe that our athletic teams are an extension of our classrooms. Through quality training and teaching, our student-athletes develop life-long skills that will assist them with any future endeavor. Our coaches are fully committed to educating our student-athletes on the importance of personal integrity and team work.
Our athletic program supports 66 teams in 27 varsity sports and competes annually in over 950 athletic events. Historically, over 80% of our student body participates in one or more of our sport teams. Honors for our student-athletes include national, state, and local recognition. Despite the impact of Covid-19 and the cancellation of the 2020 Spring athletic season, 2019-2020 was another exceptional year for Charger athletics. Our Boys Cross Country team celebrated their 3rd consecutive NCISAA State Championship and 20th consecutive CISAA Conference Championship. Girls Basketball continued their decade long dominance in both state and conference play capturing both the NCISAA and CISAA championships. For the first time in school history, Wrestling was NCISAA Co-Champions and our Football team won the NCISAA Division II State Championship. We also celebrated two conference "Players of the Year," and the NC USA Track and Field "Athlete of the Year." Sixty-five of our student athletes were awarded All-Conference while 21 received All-State recognition. Four of our head coaches were honored as "Coach of the Year." And by the conclusion of the 2019-2020 season, 22 of our student-athletes committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at some of the most prestigious universities in the country including the University of Notre Dame, The Ohio State University, Wake Forest University, Michigan State University, and North Carolina State University.
Thank You Charger Club!
The Charger Club is a spirited volunteer organization that serves as an integral part of our athletic program. Their primary goal is to enrich the athletic experience of our students in TK-12, coaches, and staff through the efforts of fundraising and volunteerism. All parents are encouraged to join the Charger Club and become involved in all of our special events during the year. Charger Club Link
