  • The Class of 2018 had 10 National Merit Finalists and 17 Commended Scholars.  Over the past 6 years PDS has had 68 National Merit Finalists and 79 Commended Scholars.
  • 12 Upper School Advanced Placement teachers have been appointed by the College Board as Readers, Table Leaders or Curriculum Test Writers for the Advanced Placement program.
  • The SAT means for the class of 2018 are: Critical Reading/Writing 670, Mathematics 690, and Total 1360.   
  • The ACT means for the class of 2018 are: English 28.9, Mathematics 28.3, Reading 29.0, Science 27.7, and Composite 28.3.  
  • The 145 members of the class of 2018 were accepted at 162 different colleges in 36 states, the District of Columbia, and 3 foreign countries: Canada, Scotland, and United Arab Emirates, 34 students will attend in-state public universities, 11 students will attend in-state private schools, 39 students will attend out-of-state public schools, 59 students will attend out of state private schools, and 2 students will pursue Gap Year opportunities.

  • The PD Faculty is comprised of 169 full-time men and women to include 34 assistant teachers. 63% of lead teachers hold advanced degrees in their field of teaching.

  • At PDS providing our students, faculty, and school leaders with digital tools like iPads and laptops is about more than access to the internet or mobile computing. Our goal is to empower students to be self-reliant, resilient, and active learners who are not limited by the four walls of their classroom, but instead seek to learn by interacting with the world. Students have access to use 3D printers, a laser cutter, 4 computer labs, document cameras, SMART boards, as well as their own Charger Apps account for email, collaborative file sharing, calendars, and more.

  • A complementary and necessary component to PDS’s use of technology is a robust, integrated digital citizenship curriculum. Our conversations about avoiding digital distraction, being safe online, and the appropriate use of digital tools is interwoven throughout all facets of student life.

  • The mission of the Global Education program at PD is to cultivate within our students the ability to appreciate and value the differences among people locally and globally, and to develop the knowledge, skills, and character to become active global citizens.
  • As a part of this program, the Global Studies Diploma (GSD) is endorsed by the National Association of Independent Schools, Worldview at UNC-Chapel Hill, and the Global Educators Benchmark Group. To receive the GSD in addition to the PD high school diploma, a student must take additional required and elective courses covering all disciplines, attend extracurricular activities on and off campus, and participate in global cross-cultural experiences including travel abroad and/or student hosting.  The program culminates with a capstone global leadership course and final research project. In 2018, 24 seniors received the GSD; currently, 135 Upper School students are enrolled in the program.
  • In addition to the GSD for students, the Global Education office offers a Global Educator’s Certificate for faculty and staff. Participants are required to travel abroad, take language courses, and give presentations to classes as well as incorporate their experiences into current curriculum.  48 faculty and staff have received this certificate in the past 11 years; currently, 30 are enrolled in the 5 year program.
  • Providence Day School is  a global member of Round Square International (RSI), an organization with over 200 schools in 50 countries.  PD students have the opportunity through this association to participate in international service learning projects, study abroad at another RSI school, and attend global and regional leadership conferences.

  • PDS has won the Wells Fargo Cup, a prestigious award, presented for all around athletic achievement in the NCISAA 3A classification for 6 of the last 8 years.
  • In 2018-2019, PD fielded 26 varsity teams and fielded a total of 66 teams.  5 CISAA conference championships, 4 NCISAA state championships, and 1 NCISAA state runner-up trophies were earned.
  • 122 student-athletes received CISAA All-Conference Honors; 84 student-athletes were named to NCISAA All-State Teams; and 24 students won individual NCISAA state championships.
  • Boys Cross Country had the NCISAA-TFCCCA 4A Male "Athlete of the Year" and the NCRunners/MileSplit "Athlete of the Year"
  • Boys Cross Country had the Charlotte Observer "Runner of the Year."
  • Girls Soccer had the Gatorade North Carolina Girls Soccer Player of the Year
  • Girls Track and Field had the NCISAA-TFCCCA 4A Girls "Athlete of the Year"
  • Boys Lacrosse had the prestigious US Lacrosse Bob Scott Award recipient
  • PDS had 2 student-athletics selected as "Acaemic All-American" (Girls Soccer and Boys Lacrosse)
  • 2 student-athletes were named CISAA  "Player of the Year"
  • 6 Charger coaches were named "Coach of the Year"
  • 14 members of the class of 2019 will be participating in intercollegiate sports.
  • Varsity Boys Cross Country won their 19th consecutive CISAA championship
  • Varsity Girls Track and Field won their 7th consecutive NCISAA championship
  • Middle School teams won 6 GCMSAA championships and 1 runner-up

  • The goal of our social responsibility program is to encourage students to engage in activities that teach leadership, principles of service to the community, and personal responsibility.  We help students develop character dispositions such as empathy, patience, integrity, humility, open-mindedness, confidence, and courage so they can understand and act on local and global issues.
  • This emphasis on social responsibility allows teachers to incorporate service learning, classroom instruction, and meaningful community service into the curriculum.  Service learning activities help students use critical thinking to suggest potential solutions to some of the challenges in our society. Students are also able to reflect on their personal ability to influence change.

  • All Lower School students enjoy Art class within their weekly schedule.  In Middle and Upper School, there are multiple levels of Art offered including Studio Art, Photography,  Yearbook, AP Studio, and AP Art History.  Students’ artwork is prominently displayed throughout the year.
  • All Lower School students enjoy music classes within their weekly schedule.  Fifth graders select either Band, Chorus, or Strings and are introduced to a theater/drama class.  There are multiple Band, Chorus, and Strings courses available to Middle and Upper School students in addition to Global Theater, Stagecraft, Technical Theater, Jazz Ensemble, and AP Music Theory.  Extra-curricular opportunities include A Cappella groups in both middle school and upper school as well as plays and musicals.  Auditions are available throughout the year for district and state level participation.
