TUITION

2019-2020 Tuition and Fees

Transitional Kindergarten $18,600
Kindergarten $20,360
Grades 1-5 $23,950
Grades 6-12 $26,400

Tuition is subject to change for the 2020-2021 academic school year.

What is included and not included in tuition?
Tuition includes school supplies and field trips for Lower School students, textbooks for all grades, iPads beginning in 4th grade, as well as course and laboratory fees. At various grade levels, additional fees are charged for such items as supplemental books, AP class text books, field trips, gym uniforms, and graphing calculators.

Are payment plans available?
There are multiple tuition payment plans available through Smart Tuition. Options include a 3 month payment plan and a 10 or 12 month extended payment plan. The payment plan fee is $54 per year per family.

Is an enrollment deposit required?
A $2,000 non-refundable deposit and signed agreement secures placement for an accepted student. The deposit is then credited to the overall tuition cost.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Providence Day School offers assistance to qualified students on the basis of demonstrated financial need and the availability of School funds. While we attempt to meet the financial need of qualified students, every family contributes to the cost of  tuition. PDS is a member of the School and Student Service for Financial Assistance (SSS), which assists Independent Schools in determining financial need and estimated family contribution.

How do families apply?
Interested families should complete the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) through the SSS website.  The application is available online on October 2, 2019.

To apply, applicants must submit copies of the prior year's tax returns with all supporting schedules, W-2s, 1099s, and a current pay stub directly to SSS by the December 31, 2019 deadline. Instructions for submitting the documentation can be found here.

How is financial need determined?
The SSS uses the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS) to compute a Report of Family Computation (RFC) for each family. This system considers gross taxable income and non-taxable income, assets, liabilities, family size, and the number of students in tuition charging schools or colleges. After an allowance for basic living expenses and taxes, the remaining funds are considered discretionary income, a portion of which is available for education. The RFC is used as a guideline in making financial assistance decisions. Financial assistance is need-based; awards will not exceed the family’s demonstrated need.

When are families notified?
New Families: Financial assistance decisions are released along with admission decisions.
Current Families: Financial assistance decisions are released at the opening of the Reenrollment period.

Are admission decisions need blind?
Financial assistance decisions and admissions decisions are made by two separate committees. Applying for financial aid does not in any way affect a candidate’s selection for admission to PDS.

Do families reapply for financial assistance each year?
Yes. Every family must reapply for financial assistance each school year.

What if parents are divorced or separated?
In cases of divorce or separation, both the non-custodial parent and the custodial parent are required to provide financial information. Both parents should complete a separate PFS and submit all required information to SSS.

If either natural parent has remarried, PDS will consider the assets of a step-parent, bearing in mind the step-parent’s obligation to his or her own natural children. If either parent or step-parent declines to submit the required information, the decision to award assistance and the award amount may be affected.

What if a family owns a business or farm?
Families who own a  farm or business should submit  the “Business/Farm Statement” to SSS. Please refer to the SSS website for information pertaining to completing this documentation.
