Providence Day School started the production of 3D printed face shields in the PD Makerspace derived from an original design developed by Prusa Printers. The file will allow doctors and medical professionals to use any elastic strap to hold the mask to their heads.

The school is working with Charlotte Latin and several other 3D printing labs and individuals in the Charlotte area in a combined effort to produce as many face shields as possible; the first prototype was completed on March 25 and was test fitted with a clear shield produced by the team at Charlotte Latin. Providence Day will continue to produce 3D printed parts at the PD Makerspace to help protect as many front line workers as possible.

The PD Makerspace community – currently 59 students who have signed up to be part of the Makerspace Google Classroom – are now able to print parts on their personal printers. Anyone with a 3D Printer at home may put it to use to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect people on the front lines. This globally impactful lesson was shared in remote learning videos with students this week.
