Three Providence Day Students Nominated for Governor's School of North Carolina

Three Providence Day School students will attend Governor's School of North Carolina, a 5½-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students. Lily Mae Cochell ‘22 was selected for dance, Riley Gist ‘21 for Spanish, and Sofia Rinaldi ‘21 for math.

The program is generally open to rising seniors, with exceptions for rising juniors selected for performing or visual arts. The program integrates academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses: Governor’s School West at High Point University in High Point, and Governor’s School East at Meredith College in Raleigh. The program takes place between June 21 and July 29, 2020.

The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Eligible students must attend a school in North Carolina and receive a national percentile score of 92% or above on an approved achievement test. Students are selected through a competitive process including two teacher recommendations, one of which is in the area of study, and completion of two or more essays. Auditions are also required for performing and visual arts applicants.
