The North Carolina Outward Bound Scholarship will go to two Providence Day School recipients for 2020: Shaan Bose, a current 8th grader; and Samantha Melton, a current 10th grader. North Carolina Outward Bound School (NCOBS) provides challenging wilderness experiences to motivated individuals from all walks of life. This scholarship was created by an anonymous PD family and allows students who are rising 9th through 12th graders at PD to attend one of NCOBS’s programs this summer.
Kurt Hahn, a German-born educator, founded Outward Bound in 1933. It has expanded to include experiences across six continents where participants focus on learning through experience, challenge and adventure, and doing so in a supportive environment. Hahn’s educational principles served as the foundation for Round Square, of which Providence Day is a partner school.
