Providence Day School has sent its first-ever Middle School delegation to a conference for Round Square International in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Since 2015 PDS has been a member of Round Square International, an organization with 180 schools on five continents that provides opportunities for students to participate in international service learning projects, study abroad and attend leadership conferences. In 2018, PD hosted the Regional Conference for the Americas on its campus.
Teachers Traci Burgess and Connie Scully are accompanying students Ayla Andrews, Cora Burkholder, Lydia Crenshaw, and Gibson Sword. The conference started on Tuesday, March 12 and runs through Saturday, March 16 in Belfast.
Participants will hear speakers, visit the Giant's Causeway, Parliament Buildings, Crumlin Road Gaol, and finish the conference touring the Titanic Belfast with an evening meal.
The students will find ways to bring back and integrate the six I.D.E.A.L.S. of Round Square into PD's middle school: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service.
After the conference, the group travels to Dublin for four more days, touring the Cliffs of Moher, visiting castles, and ending the tour at Galway City.
