Middle School Closing Ceremony Honors 8th Graders and Faculty

Providence Day School 8th-graders were honored during the Middle School Closing Ceremony.

Students and families were welcomed to the special gathering in Mosack Athletic Center May 20. Special recognitions included remarks to the eighth graders by Assistant Head of Middle School Lee Tappy, Head of Middle School Michael Magno, and Head of School Dr. Glyn Cowlishaw. Mary Elizabeth Coley gave a special salute to the class. Students from the class spoke on themes: Joshua Freedman speaking about their capstone projects, Aashna Pillai covering class trips, Brady Blitz mentioning the importance of the arts, Julia Wood speaking to athletics, JT Smith and Jadyn Davis describing their partnership with Wilson STEM Academy, and Ashley Alt, Grace Moore, and Tami Alli reflecting back on middle school life.

The soon-to-be high school students were recognized by advisee group prior to the presentation of two teaching awards by Dr. Cowlishaw and Parents’ Association president Sarah O’Malley. The Blackwell Award for Teaching Merit in the Humanities was awarded to Middle School English teacher Kristin Santo and the Middle School Teacher of the Year Award was presented to History teacher Sarah Handy. "Be positive, be energetic, and love yourselves," she told the students.
