Health, Safety & Wellness
With the best facilities and highly-qualified staff, Providence Day School is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment.
Three full-time Registered Nurses serve the Providence Day School community. Two of those Nurses staff the Health Room during the school day and one Nurse staffs the Wellness Room in the Extended Day House after school. Together they provide individualized quality healthcare, encourage parent/child communication and involvement, and emphasize health education so that all students will be able to achieve their maximum learning potential. The Nurses collaborate with the P.E. Department, Athletic Trainers, Wellness Director School Counselors and other members of the School Health Advisory Council. Together they take a holistic approach in providing each student with a healthy foundation for learning and life.
Providence Day School strives to provide a safe, secure and supportive community for students, faculty and staff. The Director of School Safety leads the Safety Committee in reviewing policies and procedures to ensure that best practices are followed regarding the daily operation of the school as well as planning for school emergencies. Administration, faculty and staff train before the opening of school as well as participate in ongoing training throughout the school year. Students also participate in safety education including fire, tornado and lockdown drills.
Providence Day School’s nationally recognized strength & conditioning program is committed to the health, wellness, and sports performance of the PDS community with two weight room facilities and a full time strength and conditioning coach. The Wellness Center, located in the Mosack Athletic Center, is available to students in 7th-12th grade, alumni, faculty and staff during the posted hours of operation. The Sports Weight Room, located in the new field house, is used for over 60 teams at the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity levels. The training principles are rooted in the study of kinesiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, strength training, and sports nutrition.
