The Charlotte Observer - Providence Day boys basketball team, which played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, has ramped it up even more this season, including a 10-day trip to China. The Chargers hope for a fourth straight Final 4 appearance and a second state title in three years. The Charlotte Observer - With improved chemistry, a bit more experience, and a few new players, the Chargers say they are ready to look like the Providence Day of two years ago – the team that won the the N.C. Independent Schools 3A state championship, played in the DICKS' National Tournament in New York and finished with a top 20 national ranking.

The Girls' Cross Country team took 3rd place at the NCISAA State Championships last weekend. The Chargers were the only team in the entire NCISAA 3A competition to place three girls on the All-State team. This is a feat that has only been achieved four other times since girls XC began in the early 1980s. The All-State performers were Justine Cronk (6th), Regan Cronk (9th) and Ananyaa Bharadwaj (11th).

The Boys Cross Country team won their 1st NCISAA state title since 2014. The team scored an extremely low point total of 40 points, placing 5 runners in the the top 14 and 7 in the top 26. This was the deepest field on time with 29 runners under 17:06. Noah Dolhare (3rd), Christian Landis (6th), Jason Krell (8th) and Adam Habas (9th) earned All-State honors.

The Providence Day Girls Varsity Golf team competed in the NCISAA State Championship Tournament over Monday and Tuesday, 10/23-24. Erica Boyd, Rhea Bhagia, Kaela McConnell, Clare Steigerwalt, and Katherine Chittenden led the way to a third place finish.

One of the goals and core values at Providence Day is creating and sustaining an educational environment that is intentionally inclusive. Diversity is central to the school's success and essential to its mission and curriculum. This certainly rings true in the Charger's middle school athletic program.

It was a great day for Providence Day Cross Country at the CISAA Championships. The Boys won their 18th consecutive title with a total of 18 points! The Girls were runners-up just 9 points behind Covenant Day. Justine Cronk and Noah Dolhare are Conference Champions. Eleven Chargers earn All-Conference recognition.

The Charlotte Observer: Last season, Providence Day played one of the toughest schedules in North Carolina, for public or private schools, according to MaxPreps, which tracks high school statistics nationwide. This year, Chargers coach Brian Field has put together an even more competitive schedule, and it includes a week-long trip to Beijing, China.

The Department of Athletics at Providence Day School inducted five members into their Hall of Fame to acknowledge their exceptional contributions to Charger sports. The induction ceremony took place at 1:30 pm in the Mosack Athletic Center located on the campus of Providence Day School. The inductees were Konecka Drakeford '93, Basketball; Barbara T. Sophomore quarterback Cody Cater was named by the Charlotte Observer as one of their Players of the Week. All-America sophomore receiver Porter Rooks and freshman tailback Nickel Fields are also acknowledged. Cody was 19 for 35 passes and threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns. Noah defended his Hares & Hound Invitational title Saturday at McAlpine Park. Over 60 schools from NC, SC, & GA attended the meet. Noah not only won for the 2nd year in a row, becoming the first athlete to ever repeat as champion, but he also ran a new personal best.

The Charlotte Observer - Providence Day's football team is off to its best start in five years, thanks partly to three players who anchor the offense and defense. The Chargers average 37 points, the best for the school in 17 years. As a result, the Chargers are off to their best start since the 2012 team reached the state final.

Senior Kyle Wood, wide receiver and defensive corner for the Chargers, had 5 catches for 92 yards and 1 touchdown while also registering 1 tackle and 2 interceptions. Kyle was instrumental in the Chargers 55-21 victory over Forestview High School this past Friday night.

Science teacher Bonnie Wright was confronted with her first big challenge of the new school year when one of her eighth grader Dad's reached out to her to see if there was any way possible he could see his daughter play volleyball. The problem: he was stationed in South Korea for at least another year! But PD science teachers always find a solution...

On Tuesday, September 12, Russell Mansfield, Vice President, Branch Manager of RBC Wealth Management's Charlotte Office, awarded sophomore Jacolbe Cowan their Private School Player of the Week award for his performance against Carolina Pride. Jacolbe had 4 solo tackles,1 TFL and 2 QB sacks.

Varsity Boys Cross Country runner Noah Dolhare is profiled in the upcoming WNC Carnival Showcase meet coming up this weekend. Noah, along with three other NCISAA 3A top runners will square off for the first big 5K race of this season. Noah will lead a young Charger team which could be very strong.

It provides student-athletes with the opportunity to learn the value of sportsmanship, commitment, character, respect, and integrity. In addition to Coach Hovis being named Boys Track Coach of the Year, South Charlotte Weekly also named Noah Dolhare, Adam Habas and Manny Riolo to their 2017 Boys Track Super Team. Adam Roupas was selected to the Second Team.

NC Runners, MileSplit - Providence Day returns as the 26th best team in North Carolina based off of NC Runners database, so their ranking the Chargers 11th might seem like a bold prediction. But they feel this Providence Day team has everything it needs to be one of the top programs once again this season.
