Classroom Visits

A classroom visit offers Providence Day School applicants the opportunity to experience energetic and innovative teaching from one of the region’s most acclaimed and experienced faculty.  As well, applicants are afforded the chance to partner and learn with, and from, talented peers in a warm and welcoming school environment.

Lower School Classroom Visits

Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten
In addition to the cognitive testing process and the school readiness assessment administered at Providence Day, prospective Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students are invited to visit and participate in classroom activities during the month of February. Information regarding scheduling for these visits can be found on the Applications and Deadlines page of the PDS website.

Grade 1
Prospective 1st grade students will meet individually with one of our Kindergarten teachers. During this visit, the teacher will guide the student through activities as she assesses readiness for our 1st grade program.

Grades 2-6
Students applying for grades 2-6 are invited to spend a full day in a Providence Day classroom. During this day visit, applicants will interact with current students and teachers at their grade level.  Teachers will also administer informal assessments in Reading, Math, and Writing to determine readiness for the next grade level.  Students applying for 6th grade, visiting in a 5th grade classroom, will also have an interview scheduled with a Middle School administrator. Lunch will be provided to all visiting students during their time at PDS.

Parents should call the Admissions Office (704-887-7040) after submitting the application to schedule their student’s day visit.

Middle and Upper School Day Visits

The Day Visit will provide Middle and Upper School applicants an opportunity to participate in daily PDS activities and interact with students at the current grade level. We will match the applicant with a PDS student “host/buddy”. At some point during the day, the applicant will also meet the Division Director, Dean of Students, or Guidance Counselor for a brief and informal interview. Coaches and other co-curricular advisors are also available upon request to meet with prospective students during their day visit.  Lunch will be provided to all visiting students during their time at PDS.

Parents should call the Admissions Office (704-887-7040) after submitting the application to schedule their student’s day visit.
