Welcome To Charger Athletics!

Becoming a Charger athlete offers many opportunities for students in grades 7-12. PDS currently host 58 teams and 21 different sports. Students participating in athletics develop core values such as: teamwork, personal excellence, sportsmanship, respect, courage, humility and most of all …Charger Pride. We celebrate much success and it is especially pleasing to see how our program unfolds beginning with the foundations developed during Middle School participation, continued growth experiences at Junior Varsity and culminating at the Varsity level competing in our local CISAA conference and ultimately at the NCISAA state level.

All of our teams are developmentally appropriate for the level of participation and follow the guiding principles of our overall mission of the school. In addition to our outstanding student-athlete participation and supportive parent body, I am very proud of the involvement and commitment of our 43 on-campus coaches that fill 64 (of the 106) coaching positions. This statistic is invaluable as it offers a unique environment for the development of positive relationships between students and coaches both in the classroom, on the track, field, pool, or court. I believe this reflects the very core of Charger Athletics.

Please consider yourself officially welcomed to the Providence Day Community whether you are a student-athlete, teacher/coach or parent/volunteer.

See you at the games!
Barbara T. Fricke
Athletic Director

Mission statement: We expect a commitment to excellence from every aspect of the program as we strive to joyfully pursue our sports. We believe that it is this commitment that contributes to the development of happy children into well rounded and successful adults.

Providence Day School's interscholastic athletic program ranks among the top independent schools in North Carolina. Our athletic program fields 56 interscholastic teams in 19 varsity sports. During the school year, PDS students participate in approximately 690 interscholastic sporting events. Athletics, while voluntary, are clearly an integral role in the overall experience for Providence Day students.
